Endpoint Security

Type: activity threat prevention security

Endpoint security or more specifically USB access control is the use of software to control what USB devices can access the computer and ultimately the network. Endpoint security is designed to stop critical or sensitive data from being accessed and taken by unauthorised devices, it is also useful for preventing USB devices introducing malicious software to the network.

Most endpoint security software is commercial and it is difficult to find freeware Endpoint security. USB Blocker is shareware and can be purchased for a low cost.

While USB controls are a good method of controlling USB devices, there are many other methods of stealing data from a network or introducing malicious software onto a network. Email, Instant messenger, CD/DVDs and any other method of data handling must also be considered a risk to network security and controlled using other access controls.
